James (PeeWee) Hunter was born on August 5, 1940 in Fayette County, Tennessee to the late Fon and Fannie Hunter.  He departed this life on Sunday, June 18, 2023 at West Meade Place, Nashville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Aubrey (Patricia) Hunter and Fon (Freda) Hunter, Jr. and sisters Margaret Wade and Ada Moorman.

James leaves to cherish his memory, daughter, Gwendolyn Thompson, devoted daughter and son-in-law Phedra (Jermaine) Sutton and devoted son, Tison Hunter; loving grandchildren Kylan Dickerson, Jermaine Sutton, II and Madison Sutton; siblings Percy (Barbara) Hunter of Memphis, TN, Davis Hunter, Bernice White, Frank (Shelia) Hunter, all of Nashville, TN, Dixie (Willie) Spencer of Bolivar, TN, Josephine (William) Chambers of Lavergne, TN, Francis (Gary) Gore of Nashville, TN, Dorothy (Duane) Crowe of Winchester, VA, Charlie (Tamiko) Hunter and Carl Hunter, both of Nashville, TN, Willie (Karen) Hunter of Jackson, TN and Carolyn Morrow of Nashville, TN.  He also leaves a supportive ex-wife, Arlene Hunter, to mourn his passing. Additionally, he leaves a loving niece Yolanda Giddens of Nashville, TN and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
