It is said people come into your life for a reason or a season, I can truly say you came into my life for a reason, You were sent to ME to change a boy into a man.
The life lessons you shared, the experiences you had were all a part of a master plan,
To change this ole country boy thug into a man.
You taught me I didn't have to go from 0 to 100 to get my point across, You said "Finesse the situation because you are the Boss", You never met a stranger, your personality was bold. You touched so many people, way down in their soul, Through the birth of my kids and grandkids I stood tall,
Though the death of my parents, niece and uncle - you wouldn't let me fall, On my worst morning you answered my call, You calmed me down while TT prayed for us all,
In the parking lot, office and in the break room you welcome me with "What's up G".
As I walk the parking lot now there's one car I don't see.
My cigar man, my co-worker, MY BROTHER, my mentor, my friend, I will cherish every single memory of you until the end, You kept up your part of the plan,
You were changing this ole county thug boy into a man, It's not bye, I'll holla or later man,

Hi TT
Just wanted to write this to let you know, how much I will miss Kevin and how much he meant to me.
I joined Clopay, 11 years ago, but have spent the past 6 years working closely with Kevin. Not sure how much He told you about me, but we spent almost every working minute together. (even our breaks )
We had grown to be more than just coworkers. We shared in each other personal lives. Kevin was my direct report, but we both never seen it that way, we were Equals.
Kevin was not just a friend but was almost like my Father (| lost mine 6 years ago) He watched my children grow up. (Abby is 8 and Kat-Jo is 5)
We had a routine at work. Day would not start until we had our morning coffee (we would drink Kevin's brand as it was stronger than mine)
We would talk and drink slowly for over an hour. Every day without miss he would ask about my children, ask how they were doing ,ask about Yesterdays activities with them I would always have some activity or another with the kids.
I would hear all about how, he never slept that night or what pain he had that day.
Some days if my Wife was out of town, I would moan and say I have to now baby sit the kids..... and he would always say "It's not babysitting when it's your own kids, it's parenting"
Best were the days when either of us was called in that night or over the weekend. How we would make out that it was the worst call we ever had.
I know we both hated being on call. Whenever the phone rings that week, we would be filled with dread. But in the end we both would go in regardless.
I never knew anyone more dedicated to a company than Kevin.
Even when he was removed from Maintenance supervisor and was made an electronic tech, It took me a while to convince him he was way better off. It did not take too long and he was happy again.
(Biggest thing was less calls in the night...and he got to work with me. LOL)
After morning coffee (sometime breakfast as well) we would try work (Kevin and I were the best Procrastinators),
Then it was out to lunch, every day we would spend 15-30 minutes deciding where and what we wanted to eat. Kevin even convinced me to be vegan for a while.
After lunch we would try work but then afternoon coffee time would roll by.... Coffee break initially started at 3:00...but ended being at 1:00 so he could get a better sleep.
We would drink my coffee (lighter blend) and talk for an hour or more. Then we would try to be busy
until home time. job or project. We were like an old married couple. We would argue about how something should be done on every job.
Kevin must have been the most stubborn person | know. But he was no match for me. He was 14 years older than me, so he was very old school way of doing things.
I was always trying to show him easier and simpler ways ... Most times it ended in him saying....
"I told you so " or "see, I was right"
We had a lot of fun at work. I hope he had as much fun as I did. Work will just not be the same
without him.
He made it one of the main reasons for me to stay with Berry I both think we hated the way Berry (corporate) treated us.
We joked around a lot. If you ever wanted to see Kevin snort coffee out of his nose I was the one who did it to him. Either it was funny or it shocked him as would simply say what was on my mind.
I remember one day early in the Covid pandemic in the midst of the lockdowns. We were having coffee and I was looking at Facebook and I told him. it was embarrassing to have friends that were living in China
...but then I had seen a post from them, out having a good time outside at some festival..... "Those Bat eating MF's !!!" came out of my mouth. Yep and that was just one of the many times that happened.
One day he tells me "l get off work and TT just wants to talk, talk, talk and all I want to do is de compress..... some days I just upset TT just so I got the silent treatment"
But I know his life revolved around you and Kevin Jr. Nothing was more important to him.
He laughed a lot, either at me or with me. We hada lot of good long laughs , if we did something wrong,
We would remind each other about it every time vou had to do that task again. And we would laugh at it again
I wish I could have done more for him. He would blame me every time he got ill. Having small kids they got sick a lot. So he used to call me patient zero. l almost convinced him to get a bicycle and get active and healthy again. But we both just kept thinking... there will always be another day to start.
As much as l always told him we should never grieve about someone passing, But rather celebrate their Life and remember all the good times and things about them. I have never felt like l have lost so much before.
My Deepest Sympathy for your loss. I will never forget Kevin, He made his mark and it will stay forever ingrained in memories.

Cool Kev ( I called him cool because he’s so smooth!). He and I would meet on Sundays at the cigar shop for cigars, some taste, conversation, and some laughs. When we parted company, he would say, “Have a great week my brother!”. You know how he talks. More than a friend or a brother, he’s a hero. He’s the guy that picks you up and says,” You got this!” as he’s done for me. He told me how John Merritt taught him to hit a baseball. Kevin hit it so hard that it went through the glass of Coach Merritt’s brand new Cadillac. Kevin thought he was in for it! Coach Merritt says, “Now that’s how you hit a baseball!!!” . The next day Coach Merritt has another brand new Cadillac. I know I speak for more than a few when I say that he goes wherever I go for all time. Have a great week my brother!!! I miss you.

I worked with Kevin for 16 years . He was the most genuine person and friend a person could have. My heart goes out to TT and Kevin for your loss. They say you can count the number of true friends on one hand. That was not Kevin. He never met a stranger and had countless friends. Smart and funny and aways smiling.

I met Kevin in the fall of 1980, prior to me becoming a student at my beloved Tennessee State University. In the nearly 43 years I knew him, he was always the same, standing tall and smiling. He along with so many young men of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity. Inc, was one of the reasons I wanted to be bonded in the company of such Distinguished Men. I'm still in shock over your sudden passing. Our friendship began with our boys playing AAU basketball and later playing high school ball together. When the kids went on to high school at Cane Ridge, Tanya and I went together with the boys. The look on our kids faces walking into a high school was hilarious. I fondly remember those days like it was yesterday.
Your family and friends will miss you being on this side but we will see you again on the other side.
Special prayers for your wife and son as they will grieve you most. I will keep them lifted up in prayer.
Your loved ones who have passed on before you will be welcoming you "home". I can hear them saying "here comes Kevin, here comes Kevin".

I was an athlete at TSU when it was A&I from 1958-1961 when I got injured. I was one of the baby sitter that the coaches and the Wheaton’s used while attending the university and living on campus. Kevin and I would be all over campus.
