
Obituary of Mary I. Watkins
On January 5, 2023, Mary I. Watkins was called home to be with the Lord. Mary was born November 15, 1948 in Franklin, TN to the late Pope and Blanch Peters.
Mary was educated through the Williamson County public school system. She furthered her education after graduating from High School. She attended Tennessee State University (Business Education), Falls Business College (Secretarial Science), Draughons Business College (Word Processing) and Fugazzi College (Administrative Assistant) graduating with an associate degree. Mary was employed with Matthew Walker, Tennessee State University, Tennessee Valley Authority, First American National Bank, Office Stars, Wood Personnel Services, Deloitte & Touche, Saint Thomas Midtown and Saint Thomas Heart Group where she retired in 2015.
Mary accepted Christ at a young age. She was a member of the Mount Sinai C.P. Church for nine years under the leadership of Bishop Hal Robinson, Jr. After moving back home from Michigan she became a member of the Orlinda Church of Christ under the leadership of Minister Terry McCormick in Orlinda, TN.
Mary moved to Michigan in 1999 where she united in Holy Matrimony to Ronald B. Watkins. They were married for 23 years. She moved back to Tennessee in 2006.
Mary loved reading and studying the bible. She liked watching a good movie with a good plate of food. She would go on Pinterest and find a recipe to try out, what smile she would have on her face in that kitchen. She also loved writing songs and playing the keyboard, she recorded her first single CD. She loved her family and friends, always had a smile on her face. She will truly be missed.
Mary was preceded in death by parents Polk and Blanch Peters; brothers Frank and James Peters; son Joshua Ryan (Josh) Watkins of Pontiac, MI. She leaves to cherish memories devoted husband Ronald B. Watkins; daughters Tammy (Rodriguez Jones) Luster, Yolanda (Kevin) Wardlaw-Griffin of Chicago, 2 sons and 3 grandchildren, IL, Janeaqua LaToi Watkins of Lathrup Village, MI; son Andre’ L. (Tina) Watkins of Mesquite, TX; six grandchildren Tanisha (Demaitress) Williams of Atlanta GA, Brianna, Ebony and Antonio Luster; twelve great-grandchildren, two brother-in-law; Nathniel W. Watkins and Fredrick D. Watkins, one sister-in-law; Davida Watkins all of Pontiac MI. Devoted niece Teresa Peters. A host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
