Obituary of Sydney Shere` Sims
Sydney Shere` Sims was born on March 4, 1995, was gifted to Gaea Thompson and Decotus Sims of Nashville, TN. She was baptized at Mt. Zion Baptist Church at the age of 9. Her final place of worship was at The Temple Church.
While attending Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools she made a name for herself as a star basketball player, #32, at IT Creswell Middle Magnet School of the Arts and Martin Luther King Jr Magnet High School. She scored her first 1,000 points on November 23, 2012. Sydney was selected to the All City Team in 2012 as well. Sydney graduated from Nashville School of the Arts in 2013. She received an Associate Degree from Chattanooga State Community College. She received a basketball scholarship and attended Tuskegee University. She later received certifications and graduated from EduMED Partners. Sydney went on to serve as an essential worker during the COVID-19 Pandemic at the Rule Out Unit at Vanderbilt. She also served in other healthcare roles such as a Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant, and Applied Behavior Analysis Therapist. Sydney was accepted and was to start the Emergency Medical Service Program at Motlow State Community College in Fall 2022.
During her childhood she participated in various activities which were ballet, TSU Little Tiger Cheerleaders, and AAU basketball. Sydney enjoyed sharing her love of the Lord with various dance ministries. Growing up with her sisters, they enjoyed her enormous sense of humor, leadership, and protectiveness. The center of her universe was her best friend--her mother--and everyone knows that she would say, “I don’t play about my mama!” If she loved you, she would stand with you until the end; however, if you wronged her she was going to tell you! Her outgoing yet protective spirit will be missed the most!
She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved Mother and Father, Gaea Thompson and Decotus Sims; Stepfather, Timothy Thompson and Anthony “Buddy” Taylor; Grandparents, Carl (Dolores) Pillow, Rebecca (Tommy) Summers, Benjamin Sims, and Peggy A Sims (deceased); Sisters, Taylor Sims, Zoe (Alex) Smith, Shayne Thompson, and Dakota Sims; Nephew and Niece, Aydin Smith and Ja’Lani Scantling. A host of great-aunts/uncles, aunts/uncles, cousins, and friends!
