
Obituary of Norma Jean Reed
Norma Jean Reed was born to the late Lance C. Corbitt and Mae Sue Corbitt on September 5, 1949 in Luray, Tennessee. She was called home on Friday, August 12, 2022.
She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior and was baptized at an early age and served as an active member of Jackson Street Missionary Baptist Church.
Norma attended Montgomery School in Lexington, Tennessee, the 1st African American school system in that county.
She was taught by her elder sister the late Janice Beal and late husband George Beal amongst other educators.
Later in life Norma left for Job Corps, a vocational training program for young adults to further her education in Pennsylvania.
Upon returning from Job Corps, she was accepted into aircraft school at the Textron Aerostructure Industry. She served in various rolls assembling airplane doors and wings, quickly rose through the ranks and retired as a Lead Person. She was a faithful employee there until she retired after 30 years of service.
Norma enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, traveling near and far.
Norma was first a devoted sister to her siblings. She loved helping raise her nieces and nephews of Nashville, TN. She shared her love of education and learning with them continuously throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her late husband Dan Reed, parents Lance and Mae Sue Corbitt, brothers Dennis, Don, John, and Lewis all of Nashville, Tennessee. Sisters Barbara (Paducah, KY), and Janice (Lexington, TN) and best friend, the late Norma Jordan
She leaves to cherish her loving memories sisters, Mary Carver, Shelia (Eric Buford), Ella Butler, Carolyn Porter. Sister -n-laws Laura Corbitt, Marilyn Corbitt and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, special friend Portia Haggard and long-time devoted friend Scottie Frazier.
