Ulysses Shelton, Jr, affectionately called “Buddy” by his family and friends, was born on November 21, 1943, to the late Ulysses Shelton, Sr. and Mary Katherine Norris Shelton in College Grove, TN. He departed this earthly life on August 2, 2024. Ulysses was educated at Haynes High School, Class of 1965. He was united in Holy matrimony to Helen Roberson in 1966, and bore two children, united to the (late) Joyce Allison and bore one son, lastly united to Diane Holt Fitts and bore two children.
Ulysses accepted Christ as his personal savior at an early age. He was baptized at Saint James Missionary Baptist Church under the Leadership of Dr. George T. Brooks Sr. He later joined The Temple Church under the Leadership of Pastor Darrell Drumwright where he remained a member until his passing. Ulysses was a loving and devoted father, grandfather and great grandfather. He enjoyed going to church, working in the yard, marital arts, Tai Chi, aerobics and Tae ‘Bo exercise, and visiting family and friends in his spare time. Ulysses was a long-term employee of the Ford Motor Glass Plant Company and was one of the first African-Americans hired at the plant. Ulysses was preceded in death by his father Ulysses Shelton Sr, mother Mary Katherine Norris Shelton; sister Irma Finley, brother Daryl T. Shelton Sr. Brother-in-laws, Jamie Walker, Charles Middlebrooks and Gazelle Holt; and devoted friend Rita Dorsey.He leaves to cherish his precious memories. Five children, Ulysses Shelton III of Antioch TN, Kimberly(Dennis) Johnson of Tomball TX, Derrick (Chandra) Allison of Whites Creek, TN, Courtney (Pierre) Hambrick of Mount Juliet, TN, Montreal Shelton of Nashville TN; sisters, Nancy Middlebrooks and Beverly Walker of Nashville TN, Frances Holt of Dickson TN; one brother, Edward (Teresa) Shelton of Columbus, GA; brother-in-law George Finley of Carson, CA, sister-in-law Delano Shelton of Nashville TN. Five grandchildren, Tiaras Carter, Hailey Bradley, Ulysses Shelton IV, Derrick Allison Jr. and Caylin Hambrick; Three great-grandchildren Kamauri Carter, Skylar Carter and Kristian Cole Shelton, devoted friends Gerald Norton, J.C. Hollingsworth, Magnolia Campbell and a host of nieces, nephews and family and friends.
