Percy Smith, Jr.

September 5, 1942 — December 30, 2020

Percy Smith Jr. was born to the late Percy Smith Sr. and Rebecca Smith on September 5, 1942 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. He peacefully transitioned on December 30, 2020 at home surrounded by family.

He received Christ at an early age and continued serving God at Berean Baptist Church until his passing. Percy always demonstrated Christian leadership through his many years of service as a deacon and choir member. He also taught an outreach senior bible study class at the Kelly Miller Tower. In addition, he was responsible for founding the church’s annual Turkey drive, which continues today. Percy would help anyone in need and treated everyone he met with respect and kindness.

After graduating High School, Percy enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served proudly as a Crew Chief on a C-130 aircraft. Following his service, Percy joined the Metropolitan Nashville Police department and after over 30 years of service, retired as a Lieutenant. Percy had an undeniable sense of humor and took pride in taking care of his family and community. In addition, he loved taking daily walks with his little buddy Nemo and was a self-proclaimed computer geek.

Percy is preceded in death by his son Steven J. Smith, his parents and four siblings. He leaves to cherish his memory devoted wife of 54 years Fannie Smith, loving daughter Lakesha (Titus) Bledsoe and a host of other family and friends.
