Monica J. Shaw

Ms. Monica J. Shaw, a beloved native of Nashville, Tennessee, was born on May 8, 1962, to the late Mrs. Helen M. Shaw and Mr. Andrew E. Shaw, Sr. She was one of nine children in a close-knit family filled with love and unity. On December 23, 2024, Monica transitioned to her eternal home, free from pain, strife, and burdens, entering a life of peace and everlasting joy.

 Monica was a proud graduate of Hillwood High School, Class of 1980, within the Metro Nashville (Davidson) Public School System. She demonstrated her athletic spirit as a basketball player during her school years.

 Her professional journey included a dedicated tenure with Tennessee Orthopedic Alliance (TOA) in Accounts Receivable. Monica’s strong work ethic and commitment to her role were evident until her health declined.

 Monica, a woman of faith, professed her hope and love in Christ and was baptized at Watson Grove Missionary Baptist Church under the late Pastor Curtis Goodwin, Sr. In 2019, she began fellowshipping with Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church, attending faithfully until her health no longer allowed. Her faith was a source of strength and guidance throughout her life.

Monica’s love for her family was unwavering and deeply rooted. She cherished every holiday and family gathering, always looking forward to these joyful occasions. An exceptional cook, Monica delighted in preparing meals for her loved ones, creating moments of warmth and togetherness. A loyal Tennessee Titans fan, she joyfully cheered on her team with unwavering enthusiasm.

 Ms. Monica J. Shaw’s legacy is one of love, faith, and devotion to her family and community. She will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew her.

 She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers,  Andrew E. Shaw, Jr., Leonard U. Davis, Arthur L. Davis, and Kenneth E. Shaw.

 Monica’s memory will be cherished by her very devoted sisters, Marcia J. Shaw (twin), Kimberly (David) Taylor, and Joyce Shaw; devoted brother, Jeffery Shaw; dear and devoted nieces, Darreka M. Carney, Elaina Hatchett–Martin; devoted nephew, William P. Shaw, Sr., her devoted friends, Dewanda” Chicken” Anderson, Donnie Carney, Viggie Connors, Karen “Gail Baby” Dawson, Edna Davenport, Joe Ewing, Jr., Riccus Haynes, Jan and Becky Maguna, Shauna Norman, Natasha Osborn, Diane Rawls, Monica Hooten – Satterwhite, and Pat Whitmore; Godson, Cedric Poellnitz, Jr.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

The service will be live streamed on YouTube at Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church Nashville.
