Mary was born September 20, 1932, to the union of the late Alton and Maggie Davis. Mary’s twin sister Martha, and her eldest sister Rubye proceeded her in death.
Mary confessed hope in Christ early in life. She was a faithful servant at Cleveland Street Missionary Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee serving as the Church Clerk, Homecoming/Anniversary Chair, and on other committees as needed. Under the leadership of many great pastors, she enjoyed the pastoral leadership of Dr. Snead and her church family until her health failed.
After completing high school in Maury County, Tennessee, Mary received her Nursing Degree along with numerous certifications.
Mary united in Holy Matrimony to the late Raymond Rice.
Mary was a loving daughter, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and great friend to many. Having worked in the nursing field for over 40 years with the State of Tennessee, Mary found joy in working with the youth at Woodland Hills Rehabilitation Center where she worked until retirement and made lifelong friends.
Serving for many years as President of the Davis Hawkins Family, Mary made it her goal to make sure her family and friends had a get together yearly whether in Columbia, or on a trip to explore the United States and beyond. She along with other family members have traveled to over 45 states. Although her health would not allow her to attend this year, the tradition continues. Mary’s hobbies included seamstress, pottery maker, stuffed animal and cookbook collector. Known for her caramel cakes and love of sweets, Mary would make sure you had a healthy slice before leaving her home.
At Sanctuary Hospice House on September 4, 2024, Mary exchanged time for eternity.
Mary leaves to cherish her niece, Albertina (Malcolm) Bell of Houston, Mississippi; She also took on the role of bonus grandmother to her sister’s grandchildren, DeShondria Simpson, Julius, Breeanah, and Jimmy Bell all of Houston, Mississippi; Goddaughter Shaundrell N. Rodgers of Tennessee, Special “Sons” Marco Robinson of Texas and Frank Bassett of Ohio; a multitude of family, extended family and friends will always be in her heart.
