Lydia Elaine (Morris) Dixon, 74, Madison, TN, passed away on July13, 2024 in Nashville, Tennessee after a brief illness.

 A memorial service will be held at Lewis & Wright Funeral Home on Saturday, July 20, 2024 at 5 p.m. with Reverend Gloria Morris of Living Word International Ministries, Clarksville, TN officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m.– 5:00 p.m. 

 Lydia was born in Webster County, Kentucky to Garrett Alexander Morris (deceased) and Julia Edward (Jackson) Morris (deceased) on May 3, 1950. She was among the first African American students attending Clarksville High School after the end of segregation and graduated in 1967. She went on to secretarial school and worked her way up to from a secretary for the US Corps of Engineers in Nashville, Tennessee to a GS-11 executive role with the US Army Munitions Command at Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois where she retired after more than 30 years of service. Lydia enjoyed turning a coin in a slot machine, running Boston’s in Spades and Bid Whist, gardening and traveling. She received numerous awards from the U S Army and was involved in the Order of the Eastern Star.

 Lydia is survived by her loving daughter, Patricia Morris Hammock, Madison, TN; granddaughter, Dr. Adrienne Morris Williams (Carlos) of Webster, Florida; five great-grandchildren: Tristan Elias, Aiden Kyrie, Briana Nia, Carlos Bernard, Jr. of Florida, and Lyla Brashawn, of Boston, MA; brothers, Marcus A. Morris (Gloria), of Clarksville, TN, Allen O. Morris (Lynne) of Gig Harbor, WA; devoted nephews, Damon A. Morris (Kenneisha), of Radcliff, KY, Matthew A. Morris, of Clarksville, TN, Christopher A. Morris, of Gig Harbor, WA; nieces Alexandra A. Morris, of Clarksville, TN, Ashley Morris, of Gig Harbor, WA; aunt, Ethel Morris of Chicago, Il; grand-nephew, Damon Alexander Akeem Morris, grand-nieces, Kharyn Shonay and Aryanna Chali Morris, and a host of additional family and lifelong friends. Mrs. Dixon is preceded in death by her parents, Garrett and Julia, and brothers, Ronald C., and Cornelius E. Morris. 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Lydia’s caregivers, Michelle Mitchum, Freda Frey and Julie Squiabro, Tristar Skyline Hospital Neurology ICU, Alive Hospice, and Pastor Jack Foster of West End Community Church.
