Kenneth C. "Cheyenne" Joyce

March 12, 1957 — May 8, 2024

Kenneth Carmichael Cheyenne Joyce was born in Nashville, Tennessee on March 12, 1957, to the late Earnest Sr. and Fannie Mae (Sneed) Joyce. “Chey” as he was affectionately known by family members and friends transitioned on Wednesday, May 8, 2024.  Family members who preceded him in death are his father and mother; brothers: George, Ronald, Donald, Earnest Jr., Travis; and nephew: Darrius. 

The love of God, Family, and Friends was always the center of his life.  He was baptized at Schrader Lane Church of Christ where he remained a member his entire life. 

“Chey” had a deep love and passion for the art of baseball. His journey started at early age with Little League baseball and then on to Pearl High School in Nashville, TN, along with being recruited to play for club teams.   As he matriculated to Tennessee State University (TSU) from 1975-1979, he was a key member of the distinguished 1979 TSU Baseball Team that achieved a remarkable 30-12 record. That year Chey lead the team in hits and RBIs. Chey showcased his versatility in multiple position earning recognitions as the most Valuable Freshman on the baseball team. During his junior year he was honored as the Outstanding Hitter. He received All-Nashville Honors in both his junior and senior season solidifying his status as a standout player. With all of his accomplishments led him to his greatest achievement of being inducted into the 2024 Tennessee State University Hall of Fame for his outstanding baseball record and performance.  He leaves a legacy of endurance and perseverance through all his life challenges. 

Chey never met a stranger.  His big heart and love for people will always shine bright for others to follow.  He was loved by those who knew him best.  From childhood friends, college teammates, and his brothers of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Incorporated, impacted his life greatly. 

Chey was married to Andrea Jones (Joyce) and from this union they were blessed with three children and six grandchildren. He leaves the following family members to cherish his memory children, Dr. LaSheryl Jones-Hall (Rodney)-Nashville, TN, Kevin Joyce (Aleta)-Bolingbrook, IL, Eric Joyce-Nashville, TN; grandchildren, Simeon Hall- Atlanta, GA, Christopher Joyce-New Orleans, LA, Sydney Hall- Memphis, TN, Nyah Joyce- Bolingbrook, IL, Nyari Joyce-Bolingbrook, IL, Nylani Joyce-Bolingbrook, IL; sister, Dr. Debra Joyce- Nashville, TN; other relatives and friends.


The celebration of  life service will be live streamed on YouTube@ Schrader Lane Church of Christ.
