June Summerhill Groves was born on October 26, 1945 in Lawrenceburg, TN to the late Hattie Woodley and Sylvester Glenn and was raised by her adoptive mother, the late Maggie Bumpas. She received her reward of eternal life on October 12, 2024.
June was raised on the northside of Nashville and was educated in Metro Nashville Public Schools. She graduated from Clarke High School and went on to attend Tennessee State University, where she majored in education. Upon graduation, she began her career as an elementary school teacher in the Franklin School District, where she worked for over 30 years until she retired. She married the love of her life Bobby Niel Groves Sr. and together, they raised two sons who were born out of that union, Bobby II and Alexander.
June was a faithful member of Lee Chapel AME Church and was instrumental in helping to establish the church’s Meals on Wheels program. She humbly dedicated herself to the program’s ongoing success, and there was never any question of where to find her on Tuesday and Thursday mornings. She was one of the kindest, most soft-spoken people you could ever meet, always willing to help any and every one that she could. She is loved and she will be missed.
Loved ones who cleared the path for June were her parents Hattie Woodley, Sylvester Glenn, and Mattie Bumpas; her beloved husband Bobby Niel Groves; sister Willie Mai Woodley; brothers Floyd Woodley and Will Long; and stepdaughter Lori Groves White.
Loved ones who will love and miss and cherish her memory are sons Bobby (Joy) Groves II, Alexander (Jacquese) Groves; sister Yvonne Woodley; grandchildren Daniel White, Maya White, Aaliyah Groves, Darien Groves, Kennedy Groves, Sydney Groves, and Vivian Groves; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Please keep the Groves family in your thoughts and prayers.
