Jesse A. Batson

Jesse Albert Batson entered this earthly life August 4th, 1945 to the late Albert Urshery and Irene Church in Davidson County, Tennessee. He entered into eternal rest Thursday, March 24th, 2016 at Saint Thomas Midtown Hospital.
Jesse was educated in the Davidson County school system, graduating from Pearl High School in 1963. At an early age he was saved and baptized at the Saint James Missionary Baptist Church under the pastorate of the late Reverend D .L. Williams. He moved his membership to the Fourteenth Avenue Missionary Church under the pastorate of Reverend Frank Gordon. He returned to Saint James on February 19th, 2000, under the pastorate of Reverend George T. Brooks, Sr. and was a member of the choir for several years.
He was married to Janice Fletcher. To this union one child was born. Jesse later married Faye Powers and to this union one child was born. He retired from Metro Transit Authority on disability after 29 years of service.
Jesse's hobbies included spending time with family, playing cards, traveling, playing softball with the bus company softball team, watching sports, and cheering on TSU Tigers during football season.
He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, LaTonya Batson, Jessica Nicole Batson (Niki), one son, Jeremiah Brown, two brothers, Author Church (CA), James Church (CA); two sisters, Yvette Paige-Pearson (CA) and Hattie Loraine Shoffner (OH), one granddaughter, Carlysa Yvonne Word, a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. Devoted cousins, Shirley Crutcher, Chlodis Simpson and devoted friend Faye Powers Coleman.
