Helen Shelton

Helen Louise Roberson Shelton, a cherished mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully August 28, 2024, at the age of 77. Helen’s life was a testament to her unwavering faith, compassion, and dedication to caring for others. Helen embraced Christ as her personal savior during her youth and was baptized at Edenwold Missionary Baptist Church in Madison, TN. Her commitment to her faith was evident throughout her life and she remained a devoted member until her passing.

 Helen was educated at Haynes High School, Class of 1965. She was united in Holy matrimony to Ulysses Shelton, Jr in 1966, and bore two children.

 Helen’s professional life was marked by her deep dedication to nursing. She began her career in Labor and Delivery at Meharry Hubbard Hospital and later transitioned to Clover Bottom where she served with distinction for over 30 years. Helen’s kindness and commitment often extended beyond her professional duties; she fostered lasting relationships with her patients and their families; many of whom became like family to her. She also remained lifelong friendships with those she worked with over the years. Outside of her professional life, Helen had a vibrant and joyful spirit. She loved attending the casino, cooking, and hosting house and card parties that brought together friends and family. Her passion for gardening, particularly her love of plants, added beauty to her life and home. Helen’s legacy of love, service, and faith will be remembered by all who knew her. Her life was a beacon of compassion, and her memory will continue to inspire and uplift those she leaves behind. 

Helen was preceded in death by her father, Clay Roberson; mother, Lillian Buntion Roberson; sister, Sara Bouyer; brothers, Homer Roberson and Lyman Roberson; nephews, Neal (Curly) Lloyd and Michael (Tony) Jones;  family friend, Ulysses Shelton, Jr.

 She leaves to cherish her precious memories, children Ulysses (Ashanna) Shelton III, Kimberly (Dennis) Johnson, sister Virginia Jackson, brother Neal (Kathleen) Roberson, Godson Derrick (Chandra) Allison;  bonus children, Courtney (Pierre) Hambrick, and Montreal Shelton; brother-in-law, Bill Bouyer;  grandchildren, Tiaras Carter and Ulysses Shelton IV; great-grandchildren,  Kamauri Carter, Skylar Lewis and Kristian Shelton; nieces and nephews, Grant Lloyd, Muquadeem Jones, Kevin Roberson, Daniel Roberson and Ebony Roberson; devoted friends, Shirley Collins and Vernon Jordan.
