Dr. Harold R. Mitchell, professor and first Head of the Tennessee State University Department of Speech Pathology & Audiology, transitioned into eternal rest on Tuesday, January 21, 2014.
He was born on September 2, 1940 in Charleston, SC. Dr. Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Elsie Mitchell-Robinson and Herman P. Mitchell, and two brothers, Rev. Parker Mitchell (survived by Pecola) and Herman Lee Mitchell.
He leaves to mourn him, his wife, Dr. Jacqueline W. Mitchell; their daughter, Richelle C. Mitchell; 2nd mother, Georgianna Mitchell; and siblings, Miriam M. Henderson (Walter), William Pinder (Avaita), Joan R. Simpson (Rev. Will K.), Rosie B. Smith (Murray), Dixie L. Walker (Bobby), David R. Mitchell (Rhonda), Linda S. Miles, Major Rayford B. Mitchell (Daisy), Panshella G. Cole, SFC Kelvin M. Mitchell (Elaine), Lt. Col. Rev. Craig F. Mitchell (Ancetha), and Adrian K. Mitchell.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 2-6 p.m., at Lewis & Wright Funeral Directors. Family visitation will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 10:45 a.m. to 12 Noon, at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 7594 Old Hickory Blvd., with the Connecting Links Ceremony, at 11:30 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at 12 Noon, Bishop Joseph W. Walker III officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cross Mausoleum. Donations may be made to the Tennessee State University Foundation in memory of Dr. Harold R. Mitchell.
