David James Wells, 39, of Nashville, TN, said his final yay yay, from the comfort of his home on February 12, 2025.
David, aka Scooby or Mr. YayYay, was born March 17, 1985, in Nashville, Tennessee, to Damita Wells-Hairston and James L. Smith Sr.
As a lifetime resident of Nashville, Tennessee, he graduated from McGavock High School in 2003, attended Fisk University, as well as Tennessee College of Applied Technology. David was a 5th year apprentice, where he was one test from being promoted to Journeyman from the UA Plumbers and Pipefitters UA Local 572.
Scooby especially loved spending time with his friends and union brothers. His light and smile was infectious, leaving an impression and trail of yay-yay’s wherever his path took him.
Remaining to cherish Scooby are his father James L. Smith Sr.; sisters, Jamia Wells-Palmer and Chelsey King; brother, James L. Smith Jr.; step-siblings, Quincey Ingle and Khiari Palmer; nephews, Jaymon & Patrick Smith; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and close friends. Special thanks to LaShawn Stewart, Shakira (Charlie) King and Jeremy Raynes.
Preceding David in death are his mother, Damita Wells-Hairston; uncles, Eric Parrom and Lint Smith; and aunt, Mary “Biddy” Smith, and Mallanese Wells-Starks.
