The life journey of Chester Godwin began on January 26, 1933, in Madison, TN, to the late, Willie Chester and Grace Williams Godwin. He departed his earthly life on April 12, 2024. Chester graduated in 1951 from Montgomery High School in Lexington, TN. He served honorably in the United States Army and graduated from Tennessee A and I State College with a bachelors degree. Chester was an active member of the Montgomery High School Alumni Association. Chester started his Christian journey at Union Hill C.M.E. Church in Jackson, TN, and later became a member of Fifteenth Avenue Baptist Church in Nashville, TN. He loved his church; he was a faithful and dedicated servant until his health began to fail. Chester retired from Metro Nashville Transit in 1998. He was a lifetime member of the Amalgamated Transit Union. Chester is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Chester and Gracie Williams Godwin, brothers Lionel (Ezell) Gardner and Leroy “Dike” (Aldonia) Godwin. He leaves to cherish his memory, his children, Michael (Denise) Godwin and Angela Godwin; his grandchildren, Michael (Ashley), Godwin Jr., Marsha (Tyrone) Mims, Roddrick Godwin, Megan Godwin, Jamal Young, Nerissa (JR) Rollins, Phillip Moody, and Bariangela Segovia; and host of great children. His nephews, Jerry Godwin, Greg Godwin, & Fred Godwin; and nieces, Sheryl Godwin, Gloria Faye Godwin, Angelia Mayes, and Belinda Beard. A special great niece, Brandy (Ronald) Wade.
