Andrew Marks was born July 20, 1944, in Nashville, Tennessee. He was the only child of Rosie Lee Marks who preceded him in death when he was only a baby. He was raised by his loving grandmother Callie Buchanan, who also preceded him in death.
Andrew accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Kayne Avenue Baptist Church. He later united with the Temple Church under the leadership of the late Bishop Michael Lee Graves and was a charter member. He actively served in several ministries through the years, including, Christian Fellowship, Usher, Soul Food Bible Study, Second Harvest, Finance Team, Security, and as a Deacon under the current leadership of Rev. Darrell A. Drumwright. He served faithfully until his failing health. He united in marriage to the love of his life, Ruth Carol Percell in 1971 and theycelebrated 53 years together. They were blessed with two thoughtful and loving sons, Andrew E. Marks (Andy) and Antonio C. Marks (Tony).Andrew attended Nashville Public Schools and graduated from Cameron High School in 1964. He remained lifelong friends with some of those classmates to this day. The majority of his work life was spent at Triumph (AVCO) where he was employed 33 years, retiring in 1999. Andrew loved playing sports of all kinds in his early years. He enjoyed playing football at Shelby Park and Monday night basketball at the Temple Church. In his later years, he took an interest/obsession in golfing. He enjoyed the weekly golfing games with his Temple Church golfing buddies and played at every opportunity.
Andrew had a big loving family, the Buchanan‘s and married into another big loving family, the Davis/Percells. Both sides share many of the same qualities. One of which is getting together regularly. There was always food involved, and plenty of it. He loved good food and spending time laughing and joking with family and friends. Andrew leaves a loving and devoted wife- Ruth Carol Marks; sons- Andrew (Tamekia) Marks and Antonio C. Marks; grandchildren- T’Andrea (Jemario) Marks-Jemison, Andrew C. Marks and Andre D. Marks; great grandchildren- Da’Mari C. Prather, and Sophia L. Marks; sister-in-law‘s- Jacqueline Davis, Beverly (Clay) Perry, Meshellia (John) Leonard, Leslie (Dale) Schuschke; brother-in-law‘s- Danny Davis and Neal Percell; aunts- Emma Jean Lentz, Josephine (Frank) Frazier, Rose (Bobby) Peacock; uncles- Wilkie (Diana) Buchanan and Willie Buchanan; a host of other nieces, nephews cousins, lifelong friend- William Mason Sr. and other very special friends.
