Alonza Robinson, “Zo” he was affectionately called, transitioned quietly from this life on Tuesday evening September 24, 2024, at Nashville center for Rehabilitation and healing. Alonza was born February 23, 1943, in Nashville, TN to Mable Perkins. Alonza was the eldest child of 3. Alonza was educated in the Metro Nashville school system but later obtained his G.E.D. in Springfield, Ohio.
Alonza is proceeded in death by his mother Mable Perkins and stepfather James Perkins Sr.
Alonza had a captivating personality and smile that was admired by anyone he came across. Alonza would go out his way to do a good deed for anyone who crossed his path. Alonza loved to joke and laugh with people daily. Alonza loved to travel the states and make new friends along the way.
Alonza decided to leave Nashville, TN at the age of 16 and made his way to Springfield, Ohio. During his early years in Springfield, he meets Pearl Avery, her husband and family. He would stay with them for a few years. Alonza would spend 20 years of life in Ohio between Springfield and Cincinnati but would often come back and visit Nashville. During his time in Ohio, Alonza worked a few jobs in the food and hospitality industry. Alonza fathered his 1st child in Springfield, Ohio, he would later father his 2nd born child in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Alonza returned to Nashville, Tn in 1979, where he would reside for the remainder of his life. After returning to Nashville Alonza fathered his 3rd child. Alonza married his Wife Robin Robinson December 2, 1985. Under this union Alonza fathered his 4th and last child. Alonza confessed his love for Christ and became a member of Saint Mark Missionary Babtist under the officiating of Michael V. Graves. Alonza attended St. Mark for 20 years.
During his later years of life Alonza moved into Gernett studio apartments for senior citizens. During his time there Alonza would often read his Bible or listen to country music in his apartment or spend time playing pool with his son Nick and other residents in the community room. He would also visit with other residents just to talk and laugh with them. While at Gernett studios Alonza became a member of South Side Community church under the officiating of Jerry Maynard Jr. Alonza would attend South Side every Sunday and was always enthused to have Nick there with him.
Prior to his death Alonza was placed into Nashville center for Rehabilitation and healing where he would spend his final days.
Alonza will be remembered for his genuine positive soul, humorous personality and being a beacon of light to anyone he encountered.
Zo leaves to cherish his memories, wife Robin Robinson; Children, Phillip Ross (Valerie), Kimberly Smith, Tiffani Jones, Lisa Boyd and Nick Robinson; siblings, brother James Perkins Jr. “Mack” (Sharon) and sister Janet Perkins; 11 grandkids, 10 great grandkids, nieces Dominque Perkins and Latoya Perkins and a host of friends and extended family.
